Annotated Bibliography

CTC Info: Annotated Bibliography
Annotated Bibliography
Due Date: Check Canvas: Announcements
Length: Student Discretion
While there is no set minimum or maximum amount of artifacts required, students are assessed on their ability to create a full and accurate snapshot of the cultural movement within reason. Each artifact must be represented on the annotated bibliography.

An annotated bibliography (AB) is a detailed list of the artifacts included in the cultivated canon. Each artifact must be accompanied with a MLA citation (or Practical Visual Tag), an annotation (note) summarizing the artifact, and explaining its inclusion in the cultivated canon. Each artifact must be relevant and its inclusion adequately explained.

Each artifact requires a full and formal entry. Each entry includes:
1. Title of Artifact
2. MLA Citation OR Practical Visual Tag
3. Annotation
MLA Citation: Citations must be 100% correct with not a single error. They must be properly formatted and adhere to MLA guidelines. Goes on a line separate from the title.
Practical Visual Tags: for artifacts that are practical visuals (items that will be presented in-person), write (PAT) – including the parentheses – at the end of the title.
Annotations do NOT have a minimum word requirement, but must adequately describe and prescribe the source in question. Annotations must include the following:
1. Succinct Summary: including notable information, and the central thesis or idea.
2. Eligibility Requirements: relevance to the cultural movement (and common themes, motifs, ideas, etc.)
3. Explanation of Inclusion: why the piece was included, what it represents about the movement

Questions to Answer/Think About
Succinct Summary A brief overview of the artifact in question. What is it about? What is it trying to do? Does it have an theme? What is its purpose?
Eligibility Requirements How does the artifact relate to the cultural movement? Why are the two connected? What specifically makes it eligible for inclusion?
Explanation of Inclusion Why was the piece included in the canon? What makes it the best representation?

Answering the above questions for each and every artifact entry will create a strong annotation that contains the proper and necessary information.

Please Note: There is NO word maximum or minimum for annotations. Students are assessed on the quality of the writing and the ability to adequate describe and prescribe the source in question.
