Assessment details
Assessment Strategy
The assessment strategy of the dissertation is via a written dissertation.
The options are:
1. Literature based study– This MUST still constitute empirical research using an explicit methodology e.g. systematic literature review or concept analysis.
2. Empirical research – a study, qualitative, quantitative etc.
3. Research by design – where you write up research ready design a project for future research. This must be structured as a traditional dissertation thesis (option A below).
4. A work based project underpinned by recognized research methodology. This would usually be through your work or volunteering and could be student or organisation identified.

You also have the option of two methods for writing up your dissertation see section 7.3 of this handbook

Structure and Word Limit
You may choose to present your work in one of two ways (see module handbook for more details).
A) A traditional dissertation thesis of approximately 16000 words (excludes appendices).
Or:
B) A project report of approximately 16000 words (excludes appendices).consisting of:
i). a research paper for publication of approximately 5000 -6000 words, and
ii). an extended literature review (5000-6000 words)
iii) a critical review/reflection of the research process (up to 5000 words).

Date of Submission
The dissertation or project report should be submitted by the specified postgraduate hand-in date which has been agreed with your supervisor.
Hand in dates for 2019-2020: 3rd February 2020, and 1st June 2020, 7th September 2020 .
The dissertation should be submitted on line to the HS796 Dissertation module Turnitin dropbox of the current academic year.
The dissertation will be assessed independently by two internal examiners, students will receive unratified results 20 working days after submission. If markers are unable to agree the mark, the dissertation will be considered by a third marker. All dissertations will be available for the external examiner to moderate.
