Final project
Introduction
The Corporate Web project is a major client-based research simulation that takes writers through the process of conducting research for a company or organization and recommending (and, in some cases, actually implementing) changes based on that research. As the title suggests, this project has to do with corporate web sites. You work for a company called Web Page Solutions, Inc., or WPS. This company exists to advise other companies, its clients, about the design and implementation of web sites: Should a company have a web site? (Is it worth the investment of time and personnel?) Is an existing web site meeting users’ needs, especially mobile users’ needs? Should a company upgrade, revise, or redesign its web site, including integrating additional forms of social media, adding online purchasing or reservation options, or creating a stand-alone app?
Chiefly, WPS employees work as researchers and writers. They investigate their clients’ needs, do appropriate research, and produce reports to help clients make decisions about their uses of the web. Your primary task as a WPS employee is to locate a business client who needs information about web sites and help that client to decide whether to develop an online presence (if they don’t already have one), or whether to upgrade/revise an existing online presence.
This project can be done individually or collaboratively; the choice is up to you. You will also get to choose your client. You do not have to contact the client nor do you have to share your research with them.
For this project, you will produce —as individuals or in teams— the following deliverables:
• Initial project proposal (50 points): April 13
• A research plan (15 points): April 20
• A progress report (10 points): May 4
• Recommendation report (100 points): First Draft May 4; Final Draft May 11
• Oral presentation (100 points): May 11
Part one: Your Client: Who Are They?
1. Who exactly is the client? What do they do? How do they do it? Who are their competitors?
2. Does the client have a stand-alone Web site? Provide the URL and describe the site’s content. When was the site last updated?
3. Does the client have social media? Provide the URLs and describe the content.
4. Is their online presence effective and persuasive right now? Why or why not?
