Economic transformations like the “revolutions” mentioned in the readings are often thought of as indicators of progress and improvement. How did these revolutions help America progress or improve?
How did different groupings of Americans (including immigrants) experience the impact of those revolutions? Which groups benefited or suffered setbacks, either in absolute terms (worse off over time) or in relative terms (losing ground to other groups)? By groupings, you should be thinking in terms such as: race, socio-economic class, native-born or immigrant, etc. You may also want to specify in terms of region (where these changes took place) or gender, for instance, middle-class white women or working-class men.
