Annotated Bibliography. If you have no idea what those words mean, that’s totally okay. An annotated bibliography (or as you’ll often hear me refer to it as just the “annotated bib”) is just a fancy title for a document containing citations and annotations. In other words, you’re all going to be giving me an MLA citation and a detailed summary (with some extra information) for 5 more sources.
With this assignment, you are all further proving to me the relevance of your research by providing me with some detailed information over 5 more sources and how they fit into your research. So, in addition to giving a summary and evaluation of each source, you’ll be telling me in a few sentences how this source might benefit your paper or how it will help answer your question. More information regarding that idea can be found on the assignment sheet. In fact, your first step this week is to read and review Writing #3’s assignment sheet.
As far as research is concerned, for this assignment, you’ll all need to find 5 more sources (that means new and not the same 5 you used for the prospectus) pertaining to your research topic. Remember that these sources need to contain information you can potentially use in your research paper. But just like the prospectus, you do not have to use these sources in the actual paper. If you do decide to use any of the sources you find for either Writing #2 or #3, then good for you! You now have 10 sources to choose from for an assignment that only requires 6! (See what I did there?) Once you find those new sources, you’ll upload copies of them to our newest module.
Then, just like we did with the prospectus, you will all need to read and review the sample annotated bib. This should give you a better idea of what I’m looking for in this assignment. Pay special attention to the information in each annotation (the paragraph following the MLA citation). However, do not use this as a guide for formatting. Just like I did with Writing #2, I will provide an MLA formatted sample of the annotated bib. I just want you reading this first sample for content. The MLA formatted sample will be posted next week.
