REQUIREMENTS & DUE DATE:

Objectives of the Writing Assignment
• Learn about a current political issue or problem of political consequence.
• Use your research skills.
• Evaluate your topic from the perspective of different cultures and/or political viewpoints as well as your own.

The Requirement and Expectations:
• This assignment is regarding politics, governmental policies, and people. Select a topic which covers a current event or situation that addresses a local or foreign issue, problem or person of international consequence.

What you should write about is:
• Address the various sides of the issue with conclusions based on your own analysis of the issue and demonstrate an understanding of its complexities.
• Compare and contrast the different viewpoints of sources used on your topic taking into account the limits of a position.
• Present an informed evaluation of the evidence and different viewpoint surrounding the topic
1. How they interact
2. The impact of government policy
3. How and if they benefit society
4. If it is worthy of the cost,
5. If the policy needs to be changed, expanded or eliminated,
6. What effects they create – good or bad

1. Three pages or 750-word paper
2. Font of 12 characters per inch; Times New Roman theme font; double-spaced; margins 1”.
3. Penalties will apply for improper formatting.
4. Anytime you borrow someone’s ideas, paraphrase or quote them, cite all sources using citation styles for research papers. Analyze and question your sources assumptions. You will need to indicate through endnotes any citations through the body of your paper and add a Work Cited page listing those citations in your paper. You should have at least 3 sources.

Penalties will be applied for punctuation or grammatical errors as follows:
1. Typos, incorrect punctuation, formatting, etc.
2. Misspelled/incorrect words, contractions, omitted page number, abbreviations, grammatical errors, improper hyphenation, unidentified acronym.
3. Improper paragraphing, incomplete sentence, margin over/under-run, redundancy, unclear sentences, incorrect information, improper quotes.
4. Weak argument, unacceptable length.
5. Plagiarized paper (any part) will be given a ZERO.
