Instructions for the work:
1) The literature review must contain a clear description of the academic contribution: Theoretical insight,
practical application, reduction of complex system to simple system
2) In addition, the relevance and novelty of each paper must be explained, also in the context of the
chosen papers. Where possible, refer to the rigor of the research methodology. Identify arguments that
justify your research question, balancing novelty, relevance and feasibility. Novelty criteria: explain why
and how your research question addresses a gap/unsolved puzzle in our knowledge of
business/managerial issues.
Relevance: explain the reasons why answering your research question will impact our knowledge of
business/managerial issues.
Feasibility: explain why and how you can properly answer your research question with the time/resources
you have.
3) Identify if the paper is deductive or inductive?
Deductive: theory/hypothesis is developed in the paper and tested against
Deductive approach questions typically imply:
• That you want to examine the relationship between two concepts already specified in the literature
• That enough literature exists on the topic to identify which concepts to include in your RQ.
Inductive: data is collected and the theory/hypothesis is built.
Inductive approach questions typically imply:
• That you want to discover/ explore the factors that are not yet clear or specified in literature on, say,
service innovation;
• That not enough literature exists on the topic on social media to identify which concepts to include in
your RQ.
