The requirement is that your paper compares two countries chosen from among the United States and a Western European country. For example, you may compare public health care policies in the United States and Germany; campaign finance in Britain and France; voting registration procedures in Denmark and Sweden; public transportation policies in Ireland and the Netherlands; legislative committees in Belgium and Portugal; environmental policy in Italy and Spain; or the political role of the media in Italy and Spain. The paper should be about 10 pages in length.
In my research paper, I will be comparing mass transit policies in a Frankfurt, Germany versus the mass transit in the U.S., more specifically New York. I believe that there are many ways we can benefit from looking to Germany’s more cost-efficient and environmentally-friendly public transit system. We can apply this structure and concept to a transit system, like New York, which is being protested by many of the citizens of New York. The New York MTA has recently increased their prices to help tackle the city’s current financial crisis. The outbreaks in protest have led to an unstable society where the city has begun over-policing train stations causing more tensions to arise between the city and the citizens. With the example of a random city in Germany, we can see that rapid transit can be made to benefit both sides because it would be cheaper to pay for and maintain. This would solve the financial issue, and it would aid in cutting down the pollution within the city by promoting a clean environment.
