Module Four Assignment: Ethical Argument Presentation Instructions
Last week, we began our ethical argument by familiarizing ourselves with Nelson’s Method and applying the principles to one of four ethical dilemma case studies. In Module Four, the outline will be fully developed into a presentation detailing your argument and advocating for the patient in the case study. This will allow us to practice our verbal communication skills, the presentation of an ethical argument, and the use of presentation software.
We will utilize one of a few online tools to record the presentations. I ask that you please DON’T use voice over PowerPoint, as it makes following the presentation much more difficult. You may use any presentation software or style you like as long as it is able to be recorded for presentation.
Students have had success using a tool called Screencast-O-Matic as well as the software provided by campus, which is Panopto.
Instructions for recording your presentation with Screencast-O-Matic can be found HERE.
Instructions for recording your presentation with Panopto can be found HERE.
The Criteria for the presentation are as follows:
● Your presentation should be 8-10 minutes in length. In this case, points will be deduced for a presentation that is too long. This may require you to make some decisions about what to include and what to exclude in your argument. Being concise is a communication skill!
● You must include both graphical and audio elements in your presentation. You may use software such as PowerPoint, Prezi, Google Slides etc. or you may also utilize a whiteboard or other “low tech” solution if you wish.
● The argument must follow the ethical argument format which you outlined in Module Three. You may choose to spend more or less time on any given stage of the ethical argument depending on your argument, but each stage (background, identify specific questions, apply ethical principles, determine options, make recommendations, anticipate conflict) must be addressed.
● Your presentation must contain at least 4 references in APA format, OTHER than the textbook or the source of the ethical dilemma (Center for Practical Bioethics)
● Please refer to the rubric for more information regarding how the presentation will be graded.
