I​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍​n this class we are learning about Supply Chains and all that they entail. A big part of supply chains are 3PL and 4PL logistics systems. These make up the backbone of many supply chains in the modern era. So, for this project I want you all to research a freight forwarder, 3PL or 4PL system. You will need to choose a company or program to do your paper on and will be required email me with your choice and receive approval from me on said choice by September 19th. Please email your choice to my email before midnight Sept 19th or you will not receive a grade on the project whether it is submitted or not. That being said, you have full freedom to choose the company you want to research. I will not veto any choice as long as they meet the criteria, and as long as there isn’t copious use of the same company by the rest of the class (i.e. I don’t mind if a few people choose the same company as long as the whole class isn’t doing the same thing). The main reason for this requirement is to make sure the company you choose falls into this category, and so I can do prior research if I do not know of the company or haven’t worked with them before. I encourage you all to get out of your comfort zone and find a company you’ve never heard and/or have not been affiliated with. Take this as an opportunity to learn about a new company and/or a new aspect of our industry. I also encourage you to contact the company to help with the research on your paper. This is a great way to get a first-hand perspective of the work they do and can sometimes lead to opportunities down the road (networking is always important). You will be required to answer the following questions in your paper, but do not limit yourself to just these. Remember doing the minimum will get you the minimum grade, and the more you put into the more you will get out of it. 1. Tell me history of the company/program you picked. When did they start? Where did they start? Were they a 3pl company to begin with or did they move into the market? Etc. 2. Tell me about the type business your company does. What do they specialize in? Do they cover all steps of the supply chain process or just some? Do they work in specific MOTs or all of them? Do they handle project cargo? What clients do they work with? Etc. 3. What have they done to improve the industry? Do they use any cutting-edge technology? Do they provide specialized trainin​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍​g? What sets them apart from their competitors? Have they won any awards or accolades? Etc. 4. How do they improve the world around them? Do they have any green initiatives? What community outreach/philanthropic programs do them have? Do they have diversity and veteran awareness programs? What non-health benefits packages do they have for their employees (tuition reimbursement, loyalty programs, discount offers)? Please write an essay that is at least 7 complete paragraphs in length and totaling 1500 words (word count is only for the paper and does not include title, work cited, or any supporting documentation). You must include a word count after the conclusion. The essay needs to have a full introduction paragraph that sums up the paper, and a conclusion that wraps up the main points and brings the paper to a nice close. Cite your sources (which you will have) and do not copy and paste any information. Citation needs to be at the end of the paper. Follow the grading rubric below: Section Comments Points Summary The first paragraph needs to be a summary of the essay, and an introduction of the topics you will discuss. It needs to set up the rest of the paper and any topics/questions you are going to discuss. 10 Body Body needs to be at least 5 paragraphs long, and your original thoughts supported by personal experience and research. 30 Conclusion Final paragraph needs to be a conclusion that wraps up the paper and the ideas presented in it. 10 Length Each paragraph needs to be of sufficient length to get each point across. Word count must be also met, or points will be deducted 15 Writing Style As I am not an English teacher, I will not be grading you on punctuation, grammar, or spelling (that’s what word processors are for). However, I expect a certain standard of writing as this is a college level course. Please make sure your writing style reflects that and doesn’t sound like a paper a grade student would write. 15 Citation: Feel free to use research you have found, but make sure to provide proper citation. If you use cited material do not copy and paste. Make sure to present it in your own words. If you do not cite your sources that is considered plagiarism. Plagiarism: Turnitin proprietary software will be used on this assignment to review for authenticity. If documented evidence is found of cheating and/or plagiarism it will result in zero credit for all pa​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍​rties involved.
