W- Assignment Paper

There are -3- short pieces to write for your final.
Part 1: Revision of One Interpretive Claim
Focus on these two features of our presentation rubric:
Use of Sources & Evidence
* Includes well-chosen evidence from the VA and outside sources to communicate specific insights/claims (not a
plot summary or play-by-play approach to the VA)
* Represents, analyzes, and synthesizes (succinctly) researched findings; uses at least 1 context as a dynamic
lens to show us something new about the VA that we wouldn’t otherwise see
Structure/ Argument
* Develops progressive and discrete claims/ insights (non-obvious, implicit ways of thinking) into an
interpretive problem
* Provides an ambitious and coherent argument supported with convincing and relevant evidence
* Complicates/deepens our knowledge of the VA and its value as a cultural/ artistic document
Newly devise, revise, or sharpen/tweak -one- of your most compelling interpretive claims. As you do this, make
sure that it reveals how you are contextualizing your video artifact based on direct evidence from your sources.
Share a claim that complicates or deepens our comprehension of your chosen VA as a meaningful cultural/
artistic document. This should take a few to several sentences.
Part 2: Representation + Connection
How did you hear your project, research and insights connecting to others? Identify 1-2 specific connections that
you heard — conceptually, formally, or context-wise — that productively shifted, altered, or deepened your
thinking about your own VA, another VA, art, creativity, and/or our shared world of concerns. Represent these
insight(s) and reflect on their significance. (1 brief paragraph)
Part 3: Project Reflection
One of the P3 goals is to clearly convey a complex argument about your VA via a multimodal format that
deliberately combines spoken word, text, image, and sound or video. What were you able to accomplish in the
presentation format that you chose? (I choose video essay rather than slides. I recorded my voice reading the
script. I edited it on the video of Martin Luther King and ‘The March’ film) What did it allow you to do, and
how did it constrain what you could do? How was this project of contextualizing an artwork and presenting in a
multimodal format relevant to you as a thinker, reader, writer/ communicator, maker and artist? (1 brief
paragraph)
