Paper 1: Parent Interviews
Directions:
In this paper, you will be analyzing the factors that affect the family and family life (including the ecological factors) that, in turn, influence the socialization of children. You will interview two parents from two different families who have at least one child who is at least ten years old to gather details to write your analysis. Ensure each parent that you will not use their names in your paper, and you can refer to them as Parent 1 and Parent 2. You should provide evidence that you understand the bioecological model used in this class. Organize your paper as follows:
Introduction: Who are you interviewing?
Provide details about the macrosystems of each family (race, economics, religion, etc.).
Discuss the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, and chronosystem influences on the child(ren) for family 1.
Discuss the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, and chronosystem influences on the child(ren) for family 2.
Conclusion: Summarize what you have discussed and concluded about child socialization through your interviews.
Refer to chapters 1-3 of your textbook to develop questions for each parent to gain this information. You can specifically ask the parents to provide details about how the systems have an impact, but you will have to put it in words they will understand. Rather than ask, “How did a microsystem influence your child?” you would ask, “How did the family/peer group/etc. impact your child?” You will need to develop questions that help you uncover the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, and chronosystem of the children you are analyzing. (Hint- if you need a refresher for these concepts, the lecture notes and textbook contain the descriptions and examples for each system)
You should underline your application of all key terms used (minimum of 6, including terms listed above- from the bioecological model). Paper should be three full to 4 total pages, double-spaced, with one-inch margins, and citations should be used when necessary.
