Research Question: In your own words, state the main evidence-based practice research question(s) that the study was designed to answer. Be sure to write in complete sentences.
Research Design: Identify the design of the research study (e.g., cross-sectional, experimental, secondary data analysis, case review). Describe any shortcomings or limitations the study had based on the research design. These may include the lack of a comparison group, the use of non-equivalent groups, or measurements occurring only once.
Sampling: Using research terminology, identify the sampling method used in the study. Describe any shortcomings or limitations the study had based on the sample or the sampling method. These may include small sample size; use of a non-probability sampling method; low response or completion rate; other evidence of bias in the selection of the participants; or lack of diversity in the sample in ways that are relevant to the study. If no shortcomings or limitations are apparent, that’s what you should report.
Variables: List the independent and dependent variables in the study’s research questions(s).
Measurement: Identify the measurement or assessment tools used in the study. Describe any shortcomings or limitations of the method of measuring the main variables. These may include low reliability or validity, lack of evidence for reliability or validity; lack of evidence that the measure had been used previously with the population being studied; or concerns about the cultural appropriateness of the measure. Findings: Summarize the answer to the primary research question according to the study’s findings.
Limitations: Explain at least 1 limitation of the study with an explanation of how the limitation affects your thinking about the EBP.
Implications: Identify at least 2 ways that the research study can inform your social work practice with your population of interest (i.e. the population served by your organization).
Discussion of applicability to diverse populations: Based on the study you reviewed, what cultural adaptations of the EBP would be needed for racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse populations? Do the researchers in this study discuss the applicability of this evidence-based practice with diverse populations?
